Privacy Policy — Receipts

Effective date: July 16, 2026

Receipts is a local-first iPhone app. Your receipts live on your device, and — if you’re signed into iCloud — sync privately through your own iCloud so a new phone can restore them. This policy explains what the app does with your information, in plain terms.

The short version

What the app stores

On-device processing

When you add a screenshot or photo, the app reads its text using Apple’s Vision framework on your device. The image and its text are never sent off the device for this. There is no “external AI” or cloud processing.

iCloud sync

If you’re signed into iCloud, your receipt cards (their text, source, note, category, and card style) sync through your own private iCloud account so they restore automatically on a new phone — with no separate account or login. This uses Apple’s private CloudKit: the data lives in your iCloud, encrypted, and we do not operate a server that stores or sees it. Original screenshots are not synced — they stay on the device where you added them, so “view original” works only on that device. You can turn off iCloud for Receipts in iOS Settings, which keeps everything local to the device.

When your content leaves your device

Your receipt content leaves your device in two ways: syncing to your own private iCloud (see above), and when you explicitly export or share something (for example, sharing a recap image through the iOS share sheet). Exports include only the content you selected — never the original screenshot, and never a source name unless you included it yourself.

Analytics

Today, Receipts collects no usage analytics and includes no third-party analytics SDKs. If this changes, we will update this policy and the app’s App Store privacy details first, and any analytics will be limited to anonymous, aggregated counts — never your receipt content.

Separately, if you have enabled “Share With App Developers” in iOS Settings, Apple may provide us with anonymized, aggregated crash and usage statistics through Apple’s own systems. You can turn that off in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Selling your data

We do not sell your personal data.

Children

Receipts is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the text and the effective date above.
